Indica means relaxing and sativa means energising — roughly true, and increasingly loose, because almost everything on the market is a hybrid.
What the labels originally described
Plant shape and origin: short broad-leaf plants from central Asia, tall narrow-leaf plants from equatorial regions. Effect correlated with those shapes historically, not by rule.
What predicts the feel better
Terpenes. Myrcene and caryophyllene lean heavy and sedating. Limonene lifts mood. Pinene keeps the head clearer. Terpinolene is the bright, almost fruity note in classic hazes. Read those notes on the listing before the category tag.
Practical shopping
Use indica strains for sleep and body relief, sativa strains for daytime, and hybrid strains when you want both. Then buy on aroma description. After two or three orders you will know your terpene preferences better than any category could tell you.
Dose matters more than genetics
Any strain becomes sedating at a high enough dose. If a sativa ever made you anxious, the dose was probably the cause, not the plant.
